Emergency stockpiles of disaster relief items - Who Has What Where:

Redesign of the Directory of Emergency Stockpiles (July-Oct 2008)

Questionnaire

In 2005, the Humanitarian Response Review recommended an expansion of the global mapping of relief stocks. Consequently, in 2006, the Logistics Cluster in collaboration with OCHA decided to re-design the functional requirements of the existing directory of emergency stockpiles (contained in the Central Register of Disaster Management Capacities) in order to make it a dynamic tool, easier to use to reflect actual stocks.
Consequently, a consultant has been recruited to evaluate the information flow of the existing directory of emergency stockpiles and to recommend enhancements and new features. In this context, please find a questionnaire that will assist us in gaining further understanding of your needs and to compile this information in a useful and effective manner.
For additional information, please contact Virginie Bohl (bohl@un.org) or Peter Verheij (verheijp@un.org).

The directory of emergency stockpiles of disaster relief items, available on-line at http://ocha.unog.ch/cr, was established to enable UN agencies, intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations to quickly identify and contact appropriate authorities, which could provide the required relief items.

For the latest map on Who Has What Where, see here.

What does it contain? It contains information on emergency stockpiles, which are managed by different humanitarian organizations and primarily oriented towards providing disaster relief items, by these organizations directly or on their behalf, free of charge to a disaster-stricken country. This register provides the following information on each emergency stockpile:

There is no obligation from the stockpile holder to dispatch these disaster relief items. Decisions are made on a case by case basis by the stockpile holder.
